SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-2024

The Lake Erie Section of the Institute of Food Technologists embraces the importance of encouraging education in food science. Annual scholarships are awarded to motivated and inspiring students pursuing undergraduate degrees in food science or related fields.

Scholarship applications must be submitted to the Lake Erie section by January 12, 2024.

  • Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than February 9, 2024
  • All applications must be typed in English
  • Unsolicited materials will not be accepted

Please include the following documents with your application:

  • Official undergraduate or graduate college transcripts
  • (1) professional letter of recommendation signed with reference

Scholarship Application Rules

  1. Scholarship applicants will be eligible to win anywhere from $1,000 up to $2,500.
  2. The scholarship recipient must be a student or a graduate student majoring in Food Science, Human Nutrition, Food Microbiology, Food Chemistry, Sensory Science, or Food Engineering with the intent to work within the food industry. Additionally, an undergraduate must have completed a minimum of three quarters or two semesters in the aforementioned degrees.
  3. Each recipient must have a permanent, legal residence within the region defined by the following counties: Ashtabula, Ashland, Carroll, Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Harrison, Holmes, Huron, Jefferson, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas and Wayne.
  4. A single recipient may receive a scholarship more than one year but must re-apply yearly.
  5. Scholarship recipients are selected by the Lake Erie IFT Scholarship Committee.
  6. Each applicant is required to submit:
    • A completed scholarship application
    • Official transcripts or unofficial electronic transcripts from each college or university attended
    • One signed academic or professional letter of reference. Please have reference send recommendations directly to Megan Fox megan.fox@jmsmucker.com.
  7. All applications must be emailed by January 12, 2024. Applications received after this date will not be considered.
  8. Recipients are required to attend the LEIFT Scholarship Award Meeting to receive their scholarship money. If the recipient is absolutely unable to attend the event, the money will be presented at another meeting.
